Description
For years, many fan's of Red Dwarf have hoped that someday, Red Dwarf - The Movie, would become a reality . . . . but sadly, it seems that the movie has now missed it's window, and will obviously now never get made, plus, if it had been made, it would have not been a direct continuation from the series, but a stand alone movie [much like the 1995 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - The Movie' was] which would have shown us the launching of the Red Dwarf herself near Earth or some other planet.
And also, would the film have worked best on the big screen ? as most TV shows, such as 'Doctor Who', only work best on the small screen.
Doug Naylor clearly has given up trying to make the movie. As far as I know, his never actually announced that he was going to give up on the film, but clearly, he has, that's why we've so far had 2009's 'Back to Earth', 2012's Series X, and upcoming series XI and XII for 2016 and 2017 respectively.
But man oh man, would I have loved to have been in the audience to have seen the film if it had been made. I recall telling my friend and fellow Red Dwarf fan Dean about the film years ago, and he knew absolutely nothing about it and got all excited when I told him, so I said to him something like "well ya know, if the film does eventually get made, let's watch it together at the cinema" . . . . alas, that day never came . . . . . SMEG !!
Here is 16 articles of interest from the official Red Dwarf website talking about the production of the film, including storyboards showing what the film might have looked like on screen, cast read-through pictures, Robert Llewellyn having make up done for a new Kryten mask etc. The articles are from 2000 to 2003.

Doug revealed on Twitter they might do a live tour one day. If it did happen, they should show it live in cinemas for anyone who can't get tickets (like what Monty Python did last year). At least then something new and Dwarfy will be on a big screen!
